Our Mission Statement

The Links, Incorporated is an organization comprised of women of African heritage who are committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the identities, culture and economic survival of all people of African origin through cultural, educational and civic programs.

Through our partnerships we promote activism to help bring about positive change that transcends time, race and socio-economic differences.

 

History Of Queen City (OH) Chapter Of The Links Incorporated

On May 28, 2005, Queen City (OH) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, was chartered as the 275th chapter in Linkdoms’ International Chain with the Village of Lincoln Heights as its primary service area. There were 41 Charter members of the Queen City (OH) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated. The chapter grew from the Queen City Women’s Club established in 2000, and was organized by Margaret Horton, Sylvia Joyner, and Paulette Keys.

Since 2005, Queen City (OH) Chapter has implemented the following programs:

  • Lincoln Heights Elementary School “Create an Opera” Program
  • “Health Links – Making Connections for a Healthier You” Community Health Fair
  • Nutrition, Physical Activity and Academic Workshops at Lincoln Heights Elementary School
  • Social development program (Peace Pals) at Lincoln Heights Elementary School
  • International Festival
  • MAAMA Kit Project awareness Campaign
  • Voter Registration Drive

 

Additionally, the chapter annually supports local cancer research efforts in honor of a very valuable citizen, Mrs. Gloria Byrd, who died from breast cancer in 2003. These programs include: hosting the Mobile Mammography Breast Cancer Screening Van, participating in Making Strides for Breast Cancer Walk and participating in the Relay for Life community event. Each year, the chapter presents the “Gloria A. Byrd Scholastic Achievement Award” to deserving female students who reside in the Princeton (OH) school district. The scholarship funds are raised through the “Ladies Who Lunch” Luncheon and Silent Auction event held annually during the 2nd Saturday in May.

 

Chapter Awards

Since 2005, the Queen City (OH) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated has received the following regional and national organization awards:

  • First Place, Central Area Program Award for the “Create an Opera” program at Lincoln Heights Elementary School – July 2007
  • Third Place Award for the Chapter display at the Central Area Conference – July 2007
  • Third Place Award, National Level, for the “Create an Opera” program at Lincoln Heights Elementary School – July 2008
  • Second Place, Central Area Program Award for the “Create an Opera” program at Lincoln Heights Elementary School – July 2011
